Facebook is basically a social network where people can chat with friends, meet friends from childhood or back home and just meet new people around the world. I owned a Facebook profile after my college orientation because they said it would be useful to know whats going on on campus because most organization post their events on Facebook. I had a Myspace account before Facebook but now that I have a Facebook, I rarely go on Myspace unless I'm talking to my family memebers who don't have a Facebook. Since I had a Facebook, I'm on it at least twice a day to talk with my friends who are away for college and see what events are going on at Nova. The new and "improved" Facebook doesn't bother me cause I've gotten use to it but it doesn't help those who are now joining because they are probably more confused than ever.
These social networks like Myspace and Facebook are new addictions that face our world today. Many people spend more hours on Facebook and Myspace than they do studying, working, or spending time with family. These networks are very addictive and cause many problems between couples, parents and children, and workplaces. Most of the gossips we heard around campus or our town are first started because of your Facebook or Myspace profile. People who love to start drama will copy and take things from your profile and twist it up and make you look bad. I know of some employers who check Facebook profiles when hiring their employees, if they feel that the profile is inapporiate and immature, you will not get hired. So a word of advice to everyone, watch what you put on these profiles because it will come back and bit you in your butt.
I believe that these social networks is a phase and will pass in several years so hopefully the next generation will learn from ours and try something different.
