The two essays I read were ‘Seeing with the Heart’ by Stephanie Disney and ‘The Power of Hello’ by Howard White. I chose these too essay because their titles seemed interesting to read. Each essay had a teaching or moral to the story, which is something, I look for when reading any type of writing. The first essay, Seeing with the Heart made me think about family and how important they mean to you, no matter how small or large or even different races, its the love that we have for each that is important. You can get angry with them but you always know at the end of the day your heart belongs to someone that truly loves you and that is your family. The Disney family is different on the outside but inside they are the same like you and I. It really isn't what you see on the outside but what is on the inside. The second essay, The Power of Hello was powerful because you may never know how important a four-letter word like "hello" may mean to someone. That word can build up person self-esteem, just to let them know that you notice them or help a person going through a made day. The word "hello" is a conversation starter, which can lead to a long lasting friendship or get you to a higher position in a job like Howard White. From that essay, I realize that no matter whom I see, just saying "hello" can change everything and change you as a person.

You state that a "teaching or moral . . . is something I look for when reading any type of writing." I just wonder how intentional you think the author must be to put the teaching or moral into the text. Do we the readers get to create a moral based on the text we're reading? Or can we only discover the moral that has been planted there by the author?
